Makinde Approves Appointment of New Eleruwa of Eruwa

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Prince Adebayo Adegbola as the new Eleruwa of Eruwa land in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of the state.

The approval was confirmed in a statement issued on March 4, 2025, by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade.

According to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, the Eleruwa stool became vacant following the dismissal of Suit No. HER/10/23 by the Oyo State High Court on October 22, 2024.

Ojo explained that the Laribikusi Ruling House, which was entitled to present a candidate, failed to do so within the period stipulated under Section 15(1) of the Chiefs Law Cap 28, Laws of Oyo State.

He noted that the failure paved the way for the government to take decisive action to ensure stability and continuity in the traditional institution.

Oyelade added that with the latest approval, the Makinde administration has installed a total of 11 kings and 40 baales across the state, describing it as an unprecedented record in the history of Yoruba traditional institutions in Oyo State.

The governor has continued to play a key role in resolving long-standing chieftaincy disputes, with notable approvals including Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the Alaafin of Oyo in January 2025, alongside several other traditional rulers across the state.
