Lagos Police Probe Pastor Chris Okafor Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations
Lagos, Nigeria —
The Lagos State Police Command has ordered a full investigation into multiple allegations of sexual misconduct levelled against Pastor Chris Okafor, the Senior Pastor and founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, also known as Grace Nation International (Liberation City), headquartered in Ojodu, Lagos.
The directive was issued by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, who instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to take over the matter following growing public concern and widespread media reports.
Police Confirm Investigation
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, stated that the Commissioner of Police ordered the SCID to formally invite Pastor Okafor for questioning and to reach out to individuals who may have relevant information, including alleged victims and witnesses.
Adebisi explained that although no formal petition had initially been submitted by any accuser, the scale of the allegations and sustained media inquiries prompted the police leadership to act in the interest of public accountability.
“The CP has directed that the matter be properly looked into. The SCID has been asked to invite the concerned parties and ascertain the facts surrounding the allegations,” the police spokesperson said.
How the Allegations Emerged
The controversy erupted in mid-December 2025 after Nollywood actress Doris Ogala released a series of emotional videos on social media accusing Pastor Okafor of prolonged sexual exploitation.
Ogala alleged that:
She was involved in a sexual relationship with the pastor for about nine years, beginning in 2017.
He repeatedly promised to marry her.
He allegedly betrayed her by marrying another woman, Pearl, on December 16, 2025.
He shared her private photos and videos without consent and later offered her $10,000 to retract her accusations.
The actress was briefly arrested during the controversy but was later released. Through her legal representatives, she subsequently issued a ₦1 billion demand notice, alleging threats, intimidation, and reputational damage.
Other Accusers Step Forward
Following Ogala’s claims, additional allegations surfaced from other women:
Bessem Okafor, the pastor’s ex-wife, accused him of chronic infidelity, physical abuse, deception, and allegedly impregnating female church members during their marriage, which reportedly ended over 14 years ago.
A former church choir member alleged she was forced to undergo multiple abortions.
An audio recording circulated online by social media activist VeryDarkMan, purportedly featuring a woman claiming to be Pastor Okafor’s daughter and alleging inappropriate sexual advances. The pastor has categorically denied this claim.
Pastor Okafor’s Response
Pastor Okafor has acknowledged moral failings but denied several of the allegations. On December 28, 2025, during a church service, he publicly apologized, kneeling before the congregation and admitting to “past mistakes,” particularly in reference to Doris Ogala.
During the church’s New Year crossover service on January 1, 2026, he announced that he would temporarily step down from active pastoral duties for the month of January. He cited the need for spiritual renewal, rest, and time with his new wife, while transferring leadership responsibilities to assistant pastors.
The church has dismissed some allegations as blackmail and character assassination, and many congregants have continued to publicly support the pastor.
Wider Reactions and Ongoing Review
The controversy has drawn national attention and reignited debates about clerical accountability and abuse of spiritual authority in Nigeria’s Pentecostal space.
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) confirmed it is reviewing the matter internally but emphasized that it lacks the legal authority to conduct criminal investigations, leaving that responsibility to law enforcement agencies.
Investigation Ongoing
As of January 4, 2026, no arrests have been made, and the police investigation remains ongoing. Authorities say formal charges could follow if evidence establishes criminal elements such as coercion, assault, or unlawful distribution of explicit material.
The Lagos State Police Command has urged members of the public with credible information related to the case to cooperate with investigators as inquiries continue.
