BREAKING: Police Invite Rivers Ex-SSG Over Alleged Leaked Plot to Assassinate Wike

The Nigeria Police Force has invited a former Secretary to the Government of Rivers State (SSG), Tammy Wenike Danagogo, for questioning over an alleged leaked audio recording purportedly discussing a plot to assassinate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

According to reports, the invitation was issued by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Force Intelligence Department. The letter, dated January 9, 2026, reportedly asked Danagogo to appear at the IRT office near Guzape Junction, Abuja, for what the police described as a fact-finding exercise .

The police action follows the circulation of a viral leaked audio recording allegedly involving a conversation that mentioned plans to harm the former Rivers State governor. While the police invitation reportedly did not directly mention Wike’s name, sources say the investigation is linked to the alleged plot against him .

As part of the ongoing investigation, the police had earlier arrested a Port Harcourt–based medical doctor and cleric, said to be connected to the same leaked conversation. Security sources claim the call was intercepted during intelligence operations, prompting further investigations into all individuals allegedly involved .

Danagogo, who served as SSG under Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has denied any involvement in an assassination plot, describing the allegations as false and politically motivated in earlier reactions reported by the media .

The Rivers State political space has been tense in recent months due to the rift between factions loyal to Wike and those aligned with Governor Fubara. Observers say the latest police move adds a new security dimension to the already heated political crisis in the state.

The police have emphasized that the invitation is not a declaration of guilt, stressing that investigations are ongoing and that all parties involved will be given the opportunity to present their side of the story.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has yet to release an official detailed statement on the matter, while developments are being closely monitored nationwide .
