US Congressman Riley Moore Signals More Airstrikes on Terrorist Camps in Nigeria
Washington, D.C. / Abuja, Nigeria —
United States Congressman Riley Moore has indicated that additional American airstrikes targeting terrorist camps in Nigeria are likely, following a precision operation conducted on December 25 in coordination with Nigerian authorities.
Speaking in interviews and on social media, Rep. Moore emphasized that the initial strikes, which focused on Islamic State-affiliated groups in northwest Nigeria's Sokoto State, mark the beginning of broader efforts to address regional security challenges. He described the actions as cooperative measures designed to enhance stability and protect vulnerable communities.
Highlighting the humanitarian toll of ongoing violence, Moore noted the displacement of hundreds of thousands in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, particularly in Benue State. He stated that the recent operation has provided encouragement to communities threatened by militant groups, including ISIS-linked and Boko Haram factions.
“The December 25 strikes are just the first step. There is more to come, and it is being done in cooperation with the Nigerian government,” Moore said, stressing that the actions aim to support peace and security initiatives rather than escalate conflict.
The airstrikes, confirmed by U.S. Africa Command and Nigerian officials, targeted camps used by foreign and local militants planning attacks. Preliminary assessments suggest multiple militants were neutralized, with no reported civilian casualties in the primary zones.
Nigerian authorities described the joint efforts as part of ongoing bilateral security cooperation to counter transnational threats infiltrating from the Sahel region. Security forces continue enhanced monitoring to prevent potential militant movements following the operation.
Rep. Moore, a Republican from West Virginia, has previously introduced resolutions and conducted fact-finding missions on Nigerian security concerns. Further developments in U.S.-Nigeria collaboration on counterterrorism operations are expected as assessments continue.
