 President Tinubu Sympathises with Anthony Joshua After Fatal Ogun Road Crash


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sympathy to British-Nigerian heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua following a tragic road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State that claimed the lives of two close associates and left the boxer with minor injuries.

In statements shared via social media and confirmed through official channels, President Tinubu conveyed his condolences and disclosed that he spoke directly with Joshua to offer personal support during the difficult period.

“I have spoken with AJ to personally convey my condolences over the passing of his two close associates, Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, in the recent accident,” the President said. “I wished him a full and speedy recovery and prayed with him. AJ assured me he is receiving the best possible care.”

President Tinubu also reached out to Joshua’s mother to offer prayers and words of comfort. In addition, he contacted Ogun State

Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was present at the hospital, to ensure the boxer receives optimal medical attention.

The President praised Joshua’s courage, discipline, and global achievements, describing him as a source of national pride for Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of unity and compassion in moments of grief, noting that Nigerians must support one another as a people with a shared destiny.

President Tinubu prayed for strength and healing for Joshua and his family while asking for eternal rest for the souls of the deceased.

The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, involving a vehicle conveying Joshua and members of his team. Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Joshua is reported to be stable and remains under medical observation.

Anthony Joshua, a two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion with Nigerian heritage, was in the country following a recent professional bout.
